Summary:
For the opening concert of the 2015-2016 season, Kazushi Ono, the new musical director of the OBC, conducted a concert of works by Mozart, Fauré, and Takemitsu. The concert took place in Barcelona's iconic cathedral La Sagrada Familia, and combined Gaudí's electrifying architecture with masterpieces of the symphonic repertoire. In 2015, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra presented its first concert in the Sagrada Familia. The program was chosen to reflect the incomparable setting of this church: first came Bernat Vivancos' Improvisation, a solo organ work played by Juan de la Rubia, followed by Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu's work for exclusively brass instruments Signals From Heaven, and Mozart's Exultate Jubilate. The concert closed with Fauré's great Requiem featuring baritone Josep Ramon Olivé, soprano Eugenia Boix, the Cor Jove de l'Orfeó Català, and the Cor Madrigal.
