Summary:
For his first series of concerts as Principal Conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Italian maestro Daniele Gatti conducts Mahler's iconic Symphony No. 2, "Resurrection". Daniele Gatti conducts his first concerts as Principal Conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra since debuting with the orchestra in 2004. He recalled how, I think there was a strong bond right from the start, a bond which has grown year after year and eventually led to my appointment. With an orchestra of such caliber and historical significance, I think it's important to be mindful of its legacy. What's more important is that every principal conductor should leave his own mark on the orchestra's core repertoire: Mahler, Bruckner, Strauss, and Brahms. I hope to be able to build upon the work of my predecessors. I'm the new link in the chain. Under the baton of its newly appointed Principal Conductor, the orchestra performs Mahler's Symphony No. 2, "Resurrection". This piece was composed between 1888 and 1894, the longest gestation of any of the composer's works, and remained Mahler's favorite symphony.
