- Summary:
- East and West meet in Beijing's Forbidden City in this spectacular concert of the renowned Shanghai Symphony orchestra under the baton of Long Yu! Following Liu Tianhua's An Enchanted Night which brings traditional folk melodies to the classical concert stage, the remaining part of the concert's first half showcases the virtuosity and artistry of two world-class soloists: the legendary Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov in Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto and Norwegian violinist Mari Samuelsen, a close collaborator with contemporary composer Max Richter, in the latter's November. Maestro and orchestra are then joined by soprano Aida Garifullina, tenor Toby Spence, and baritone Ludovic Tézier for Carl Orff's epic choral masterpiece Carmina Burana. The glowing backdrop of an ancient Chinese palace combines with the entrancing musical performances to create a truly one-of-a-kind concert experience! Photo: © Julia Schoierer.
