"What does the Hindu god Shiva have to do with National Socialist criminal law? What a picture of Giovanni Segantini with the 'euthanasia' murders justified by the Nazis? What does Joseph Haydn's oratorio 'The Creation' have in common with 'total war'? Actually nothing! And yet the deity, painter and composer were appropriated by Nazi authors for their cinematic model book of evil possibilities from which murderous reality proliferated. The author opens three pages from this book - those to the films 'I complain' (Wolfgang Liebeneiner, 1941), 'Alarm' (Herbert B. Fredersdorf, 1941) and 'The Degenhardts' (Werner Klingler, 1944). His passage through these contemporary documents is an attempt to aesthetically present and politically evaluate their uses and internal relationships to the German mentality of National Socialism. He goes on the trail of those scenic ideas, like micro-stories, which, beyond the openly foaming demagogy, Nazi ideology splashed unnoticed into the audience.
