Summary:
The ACM SIGCHI Symposium on Engineering Interactive Computing Systems (EICS) is a yearly international conference devoted to engineering usable and effective interactive computing systems. Nowadays there are new devices that involve the use of different interaction modalities. How to interact with these devices from a usable point of view is key to receive a broad acceptance in society. Another challenge of the scientific community is how to facilitate the interaction for disabled persons. This is also a very important target in a society where life expectancy is constantly increasing and the dependency on new technologies raises. EICS propose facing these challenges from an engineering approach, combining latest technologies with models. Works presented at EICS propose tackling complex problems in the same way as they are faced in other disciplines such as architecture, industrial engineering or civil engineering, though precise models that help to think about how to solve problems.
