Summary:
This is a manuscript document, copied from a letter sent by the Ashkenazic community in Jerusalem to the rabbis of Verona (named at the head of the letter are Solomon Bassan (romanized Shelomoh Basan, 1670?-1757?) and Joel Pincherle (romanized Yoʼel Finḳerle); line 4) seeking help in raising funds due to a famine in the Holy Land; the original letter was probably copied upon receipt (signature date was 3 Nisan 5510 [April 1750]). The letter details the acute famine and starvation in the Holy Land and their dispatching an emissary for collection to Verona (and probably the nearby cities), Petaḥiya Ashkenazi Katzenellenbogen (likely of the prominent Ashkenazic Katzenellenbogen rabbinical dynasty). Signatories on the original letter were Yehoshuaʻ ben Shimshon of Szydłów, Avraham ben Shalom R'Don (ר'דאן) of Brody, Avraham ben Shimshon Margoliot, Yehuda Eisek of Opatów, Daṿid Ber, Daṿid ben Eliʻezer Yaʻaḳov, Daṿid ben Yitsḥaḳ, Natan-Note ben Shemuʼel Zanṿil Bloch, and Avraham Yafe Ashkenazi.
