Authorship of the Eikon basilike was originally attributed to Charles I, but according to Madan (pp. 125-33) it was written by John Gauden who probably included some authentic writings of the king.
Place of publication from Wing; printer's name from Madan.

The "prayers" follow pages 175.
Frontispiece engraving signed: Guil: Marshall sculpsit (Madan frontis. numbers 22, 2nd state), is bound between A1 and A2; portrait of Charles II as Prince of Wales (Madan portrait numbers 8) is bound between pp. 150-151.
Copy imperfect: lacking A1, the "Explanation of the embleme" (Madan explanation no. 1), and pp. 76-77; tightly bound with loss of text; copy bound with Henderson, A. "Papers which passed at New-castle" (Madan 99, var. 1).
