Description: Collection organised by the Women of the Virginia Street Temple Sisterhood, Charleston with the proceeds going towards a Clubmobile purchased for the benefit of the United States Army, though utilised by the Red Cross. Letter (p.5) from Melvin E. Livengood, Executive Director of the American Red Cross, Kanawha-Clay Chapter, dated Nov. 12, 1943. The letter acknowledges receipt of $1500 from the Sisterhood to cover the cost of the Clubmobile. Sample recipes include: tomato basket appetizer, lobster bisque, chicken gumbo- southern style, celery Creole style and pinwheel cookies. Some recipes include wine or liquor as ingredients.
