- Summary:
- A decree of the Mexician Inquisition copied in Mexico prohibiting a popular dance known as Jarabe Gatuno dated 1802. The Afro-Mexican dance tradition originated in southern Veracruz and spread across Mexico. Also addressed in the document is the women's dress at church stemming from this dance deemed to be indecent. Cited in the document is a 1766 decree forbidding a similar dance called the Chuchumbe.
