- Het hedendaagse Franse kunstenaarsboek is vaak het werk van veelzijdige kunstenaars die samenwerkingsverbanden zoeken met andere kunstenaars en tegelijk ook optreden als redacteur, auteur, uitgever en drukker. Zij maken vernieuwende boeken, vervaardigd in kleine oplagen en uitgevoerd in diverse combinaties van technieken - van boekdruk tot mezzotint, van gouache tot zeefdruk. Drukkers als Robert en Lydie Dutrou en Anakatabase van de oudere generatie, en Zone opaque van de jongste, verstaan hun vak en werken als kunstenaar samen met anderen. Michael Caine van Petropolis, Didier Mutel en Pierre Walusinsky hebben een opleiding als grafisch kunstenaar genoten. Uitgevers als Collectif Génération, Fata Morgana en Al Manar zoeken voor hun boeken contacten met kunstenaars over de hele wereld. Kunstenaars als Shirley Sharoff, Joël Leick en François Righi hebben uitgesproken ideeën over de boeken die zij maken en verspreiden. Hun creatieve boeken spreken tot de verbeelding. 'Artists & others' is een rijk geïllustreerde staalkaart van het moderne Franse kunstenaarsboek tussen 2000-2015, met werken van ruim dertig moderne Franse kunstenaars, drukkers en uitgevers. Paul van Capelleveen plaatst de werken in een internationale context en ontrafelt de opkomst en het belang van de vruchtbare samenwerkingen tussen kunstenaars en drukkers.
