Listed as a participant in two meetings (April 1888 and July 1888) of the Conseil d'Administration in the Bulletin de la Société d'encouragement pour l'industrie nationale (Paris, 1888, p. 397, 446). presenting on chemical applications for hair.

Summary:

Oblong album of illustrations of designs for tokens and memorials made with human hair (f. 1r-34v), followed by an illustrated history of hairstyles (f. 35r-53v), made in Moret sur Loing (Seine-et-Marne, Ile-de-France) and dated December 1878 (f. i recto), although several designs within the album include dates up to 1880 (for example, f. 1r, 27r). The memorial designs are numbered 1-139, are on the recto side only, and range from small settings of a simple pattern or a lock of hair, to moderately complicated arrangements with letters from various sample alphabets and mottoes, to elaborate scenes. Some have spaces outlined for photographs, with photographs mounted in a few (f. 14r, 15r, 16r, 20r, 21r, 22r, 24r, 25r, 26r, 27r); most are done with pen and wash, but some of the more elaborate are hand-colored (f. 25r, 26r, 27r, 29r). The history of hairstyles, illustrated with pen and watercolor on recto and verso sides, covers hairstyles of men and women of other countries and French provinces and hairstyles of French kings and historical figures (for example, Montaigne, Balzac, f. 37r; Robespierre, f. 41r). Some illustrations are incomplete pencil sketches. A text titled Historique de la coiffure is written at the end of the volume (on pages not in order, f. 52v-53v, 50v, 51v), signed by the author with the note "extrait de l'histoire ancienne et moderne" (f. 51). The folios are numbered by the author, 1-53, skipping 28. The album, probably commercially produced, has the title Album in gilt on the upper cover.
