Summary:
Even though Chemical Engineering is a relatively new field in engineering compared with the other engineering fields, substantial theoretical concepts have been evolved enabling formulation and modelling of processes involved in chemical and allied process industries. Simultaneously, parallel developments in methods for obtaining quick solutions to the understanding and the design of the processes in the form of graphical representations have also evolved. Such graphical analyses have become quite popular in their applications in solving examples in unit operations. As a consequence nearly all undergraduate courses in Chemical Engineering have incorporated application of the graphical methods in unit operations in their syllabi. Many texts designed for undergraduate courses in Chemical Engineering present theories and methods of solution of problems of heat and mass transfer, phase equilibria and separation processes analytically to a reasonable depth whereas the graphical methods have been given a scanty treatment.
