- Summary:
- Carolingian political order, unlike the empire of the Ottonians, has been recognized as highly developed in research. For various reasons, research is reluctant to consider the Carolingian Empire as a state order, also because the empire lacks the necessary transpersonality. In Carolingian society of the Franconian empire there are, however, transpersonal greats, namely churches and families, both of which mean a past, present and future connection that is independent of the individual. These greats are examined for their inner structure and functionality in the realm and their interaction is shown to be constitutive for the realm. For the question aimed at political realities, a renewed discussion of the presumed character of the empire on the basis of contemporary theoretical conceptions, such as the research on Carolingian statehood has so far done, is no longer essential. This creates a picture of the Carolingian Franconian empire, which is located between the Gaul of Merovingians, recognized in recent research as post-antique, and the regressive political order of the Ottonians, and thus proves to be state-ordered according to pre-modern principles, in that the political is based on social realities becomes.
