- Summary:
- "Having turned her back on a religious home life, Iris navigates her world of crap jobs, boys, drugs, and the slide towards a teenage breakdown under the grey skies of northern England." --Back cover of volume 1.
- When we last met Iris, the police had arrived to take her down to the station. Her erratic behavior, triggered by a bad acid trip, has earned her a 72-hour psychiatric hold. Three days turns into six months, with Iris medicated during the day and given sleeping pills at night. Iris sees herself as misunderstood and a captive of her own bad luck, though her grasp of reality doesn't always jibe with what the reader sees. As in the first volume (2015), Iris's first person narration remains clear throughout, even when her vision is clouded. There is very little action. The drama is limited to interactions with other patients and the hospital staff. But Iris's story is compelling, nonetheless.--Eva Volin Copyright 2019 Booklist
