Summary:
Reminiscences and archive footage of the last years of the Second World War in the Ukraine and Carpathian regions. The film documents the battles of Dnieper, Perekop Isthmus, Bachchisserai, Yalta and Sebastopol. It concludes by looking at the Prague uprising and liberation of Czechoslovakia in 1945. A short digression in the middle of the film looks at the director Yevgeniya Zhigulenko, and her work on a film based on the "Night Witches", a female air force regiment that flew bombing missions against the Germans.
