From a pilot who helped rescue sailors stranded on the sinking SS Chelyuskin to soldiers who defended the Brest Fortress and raised the victory banner over Berlin, this documentary uses archive and contemporary footage to share personal stories of heroism. Other recipients of the award include a polar explorer, a soldier who liberated Hungary and then established a state farm, a nurse who fought during the Battle of Sevastopol, a cosmonaut trainer, Yuri Gagarin, and Leonid Brezhnev.
