- Summary:
- Documentary film about Soviet foreign policy which examines the role of the USSR, and Leonid Brezhnev in particular, in establishing peace between nations during the era of "détente". The film focuses on the years between the 24th and 25th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, with footage showing Brezhnev's meetings with political leaders all over the world, including with Richard Nixon and Fidel Castro. The film begins by examining the relations between Europe, the USSR and the USA during the Second World War and features Russian newsreel footage from June 1941. It also covers a meeting of the Warsaw treaty countries and the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe, including the signing of the Helsinki Final Act in 1975.
