- Summary:
- Detailed documentary which focuses on global wars and peace movements throughout the twentieth century, contrasting contemporary footage of daily life to archive footage of the Second World War. Atrocities committed at Auschwitz, Oradour-sur-Glane and Lidice are examined, as is the devastation wrought by bombing campaigns against Coventry, London and Berlin. The Soviet Union, meanwhile, is shown to be a force for peace in the world; following on from Lenin's declaration of peace, Leonid Brezhnev is portrayed as a leader dedicated to establishing friendly ties with nations around the world. This documentary is highly critical of imperialism in Africa, the Vietnam War, Israeli expansionism in the Middle East and nuclear threats, while praising Soviet diplomacy and trade agreements with India, Japan, Germany and France.
