Summary:
A day-by-day account of the 12th World Youth and Student Festival held in Moscow to promote peace between nations. [WARNING: Contains distressing archive images.]. The film is split into small features on each day of the festival, with footage highlighting the celebratory atmosphere, the sentiments of international solidarity, the promotion of peace and the protection of human rights. "The First Day" presents footage of the opening ceremony. "The Second Day" shows people attending a march known as the "Stellar March", from the Kremlin to the Dynamo Stadium, in a protest against war and against fascism. "The Third Day: Indictment by the Youth" includes footage of an international anti-imperialist tribunal condemning horrific events in Hiroshima, Lebanon, Palestine, Afghanistan, El Salvador - as well as Apartheid in South Africa - at the hands of imperialists. "The Fourth Day: Children of Various Nations" highlights an open discussion space, and also a meeting of delegates from the USSR and the USA. "The Fifth Day: The Holiday Continues" includes footage of an international peace race, chess competitions, football, and performing arts. "The Sixth Day: The Basic Human Right" shows rallies and conferences addressing the Vietnam War, working rights, human rights and youth rights, as well as a conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the General European Conference in Helsinki. "The Seventh Day: Addresses of Friendship" shows footage of the day dedicated to the Soviet Union. "The Eighth Day: Till We Meet Again" features scenes from the closing ceremony.
