Summary:
Chinese language account of the changes in China after the Communist Party came to power in 1949, contrasted with conditions pre-revolution in Shanghai and elsewhere. This film also celebrates the Sino-Soviet Pact of 1950, without making any reference to the underlying tensions in the relationship. Key points in the documentary include the historic struggle of the communists prior to the Second World War and the reconstruction of China once the Communist Party was in power. There are scenes of workers' collectives being organised and agreeing to pool their farms and equipment. These actions are rewarded with greater yields, and also accompany mechanisation, as new tractors are delivered to the people. Education and the lives of children at school also forms a major focus of the film.
