Summary:
The first part of a two-part film, based on the novel The Young Guard by Alexander Fadeyev. The film tells the story of the Komsomol members of the mining town of Krasnodon who form a resistance group (the Young Guard) and perform acts of sabotage against the Nazi occupiers. Part one depicts the events that lead to the formation of the Young Guard after the arrival of the German soldiers in July 1942 and their first acts of defiance, including fire-bombing the German headquarters, executing a traitor and freeing political prisoners. The film concludes with their recognition by the Soviet Partisans.
