Summary:

This is a manuscript leaf that may have been a draft for a dedication on a large manuscript or printed volume donated to "... the honorable Rabbi, R. Aharon Eibeś [or Abisch], son of the generous, ... learned, outstanding in Torah, the dayan, the prominent ... Avraham Unna of the holy community of Aachen ... who studies in the synagogue called Tsevi Rol heims [Rüllheims] kloyz ... with the gaʼon Avraham Śṭein / the man Mosheh [from Numbers 12:3] --- and I sign my name, that one coming off the street can't claim it is mine ... ". The Hebrew text of the inscription is: הספר הלז שייך להאלוף והמופלג בתורה וגדולה | בקנה אחד עולה ויורד באסוקי הלכה ותושיה | בבי לעולי וכברא כגברא רבא (?) נטע אהל באהלו של | כמוהר"ר כערכין אהרן אייביש---- הסועד של שארית של שיל הלמדן המופלג בתורה הדיין והקצין עניו והמצויין של | כמוהר"ר שפירא הר' --- בא"א הק' | אברהם אונא זל"ל דק"ק עכאן | הלומד לילות -- כיום (?-- בב"ה הנקרא צבי רל | היימ'ס קלויז אצל הגאון המפורסם כ"ת | כמוהר"ר אברהם שטיין | האיש משה איש הישר בעניו תעשה לפ"ק | נוסדה ולפרט למען י'יטב' ל'ך וא'רכת' ימיך | אילפא נלך (?) יליל כולי האי תשובתא בצידא אין אלא | לראיין בעלמא מאחר שראיתי אנשי רעות לעתה | יפרט כלי מעות כל בחמישה אצבעות ולכך חתמתי | את שמי שלא יבא אחד מן השוק ועלה בה ויאמר | הוא שלי | תינח לה כב"ה הואיל חדו"ת מוכיח עליו". There are erasures and deletions on many of the lines of writing, and the appearance is that of a quick draft. The dedication text was written on a fragment of a ream wrapper, possibly from the 17th century, with a portion of the engraved emblem of the coat of arms of the city of Lille, France surviving. This reuse of the ream wrapper also suggests that this was a draft of the writing.

Layout: Written in 18 long lines in two paragraphs.

Origin: Written likely in Aachen, Germany, by a scribe who only identifies himself as 'Mosheh', likely a close friend to Aharon Eibeś Unna, 1717 or 1718 ([5]478, from the chronogram in the inscription, line 12).

Script: Written in a German-Ashkenazic cursive script; elements of the handwriting have traces of Italian cursive script, such as the letters ב and ל on the lower paragraph. The letter ה opens each paragraph, and is written in a long downward flourish with the inside line of the ה minuscule and hard to see.

The verso of the leaf contains a written paragraph of Ḥidushim (novellae) written on the Talmud Bavli, Zevaḥim 22a with the Tosafot in Ḥulin 108a, signed in Frankfurt am Main, 1778 (chronogram ת'ן' פ'ח'דך) by Yosef from Saarbrücken (spelled Saarbrückenheim); written in 7 lines of Ashkenazic cursive script.
