Summary:
This is a volume of the Maḥzor for the German, Bohemian, and Polish rites printed in 1670 by Uri Faivesh (Phoebus) ben Aharon ha-Leṿi, printed in Amsterdam. The German and Bohemian rites are generally not singly mentioned, while often in the volume are notations for Polish rite and additions. There is an additional commentary called Maʻagle tsedeḳ, a commentary explaining the piyutim created from the commentaries by R. Binyamin ha-Leṿi and R. Avraham b. Avigdor Ḳara of Prague. The German, Bohemian and Polish Maḥzor was first printed at Prague in 1618-1620 by Mosheh b. Betsalel Kats, also in folio format, also with the Maʻagle tsedeḳ commentary; the commentary was first printed at Venice 1567 by Giorgio de Cavalli, with elements of the Sabbionetta-Cremona 1556 printing of R. Binyamin ha-Leṿi's commentary and elements of the Prague 1549-1550 edition with R. Avraham Ḳara's commentary. The volume contains many innovations for the typography of capitol letters, including letterforms with scrolls, different block patterns, and decorations.
Notes:
Added typesetters from the colophon: Reʼuven b. Eliyaḳum from Mainz; Mosheh b. Aharon of Worms; Uri Fayvesh b. Avraham of Amsterdam; and Mordekhai b. Yehudah-Leyb of Amsterdam.
