Summary:
"Much has been written in criticism of the subdivisive tendency of specialization. Specialists, however, do sometimes reverse this tendency and bring back, from their more restricted territories, concepts and methods of broad general usefulness, and thus enrich the entire field of medical practice. The profession of medicine may gain thereby a more sound rational approach to some of its most numerous and most difficult problems. In this sense, a movement has been in progress in recent years toward a more widespread understanding and use by all physicians of the psychotherapeutic approach to the understanding and treatment of the persisting or repetitive modes of patho-physiological disturbance associated with emotional conflict or frustration. Dr. Eugene Ziskind of Los Angeles has been active in the work of incorporating psychotherapy in the operations of a general medical clinic. In this book one may see in what fashion he has worked and to what end. Dr. Ziskind is trying here to help physicians to be more effective physicians. First, he delineates a comprehensive and comprehensible viewpoint, which gives strategic meaning to methodology. Second, he outlines, describes and illustrates those additions to the usual medical practices and skills required to gain some effectiveness in understanding and treating emotionally-determined illness. Third, he provides guidance to further self-directed study"--Foreword. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2014 APA, all rights reserved).
