- After practicing architecture and urban planning for almost three decades in Bogotá, New York and Caracas, Alberto Iriarte Rocha (Bogotá, 1920 - Medellín, 1993), better known as Mefisto, returned to painting -art that he had practiced in his youth- in the 1970's. He settled in Envigado with his wife architect Eugenia Lince in a simple rural house he called "La Malcontenta". A great reader and music lover, every day he would wake up early to paint oil still lifes with vegetables, fruits, vases and small animals that made reference to the golden age of still life in Spain in the 17th century and the realistic use of chiaroscuro in which he excelled. This exhibition recovers different fragments of the life and work of an almost forgotten artist, who deliberately turned away from society and the history of Colombian art.
