"Psychologists in general and particularly those specializing in the field of child study emphasize the tremendous importance of the home as the medium for the proper growth and development of the personality and character of the child. It is apparent, therefore, that any variation occurring in the elements constituting the normal family is very likely to affect, favorably or unfavorably, the conditions making for the proper adjustment of the individual members of the family to one another within the home and to the world outside of it. Any serious fundamental variation in the ensemble of the family constitutes the lasting problem of the "broken home." That every home must break up at some time is of course inevitable.
