- Summary:
- "There is no doubt that clinical psychology has contributed, and promises to continue contributing, a great deal of important data in the field of the study of human behavior. Unfortunately, the value of psychologic contributions in medicine is vitiated by a number of poorly trained psychologists and clouded by the controversy as to whether psychologists should be permitted to do psychotherapy. The latter has, therefore, in effect, brought the clinical psychologist into competition with the practising psychiatrist; and in the absence of proper certification of training and qualifications, has brought him into conflict with the accepted standards of medical practice. In some countries, and even in some parts of the United States, this conflict has been happily resolved by the recognition and certification of psychologists as properly trained lay-therapists"-- Foreword.
