- The Medical Reformer was conducted by a physician who was concerned with the "unhappy and deplorable state of medicine" of that time. Its articles condemned the practice of bleeding, discussed doctors' lack of knowledge in treating various ailments, and warned against the harmful effects of mercury and arsenic when used as medicines. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
