- This religious magazine, which proclaimed the doctrines of Universalism, was edited by Elias Smith, who had earlier founded what was probably the first religious magazine, the Herald of gospel liberty, at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, in 1808. The Herald of life published articles on Universalist and other doctrines, minutes of Universalist association meetings, news of Bible societies, sermons, and poetry. Cf.
