The "Editor's corner," of an undated, preliminary issue, p. 16, is dated Boston, Saturday, August 12, 1836. (Aug. 12 fell on Friday in 1836, and fell on Saturday in 1837.) Text of the Editor's corner begins: "Our first bow.--In making our appearance for the first time before the public as conductor of a public print, it behooves us to say a few words explanatory and apologistical. ..." On p. 16 it is noted that "Our next number, if the fates are propitious, will be printed on much better paper." It is also stated that "The first volume of the Eglantine, handsomely bound, for sale a this office. Price, $1,25." Volume 1, number 1 of the Eglantine was issued Jan. 7, 1837.
