This monthly agricultural magazine edited by Thomas Em[m]erson was concerned with imparting information on soils and fertilizers, on cultivating crops and on rearing livestock. There were articles on new farm machinery, on diseases of animals, and on care of fruit trees, and a good deal on silk culture and beet sugar production, in addition to proceedings of agricultural conventions, and a series on the education of farmers. Poetry, moral essays and recipes provided variety. Cf. American periodicals, 1741-1900.
