This monthly miscellany was both entertaining and informative. It published foreign and domestic news and marriage and death notices, and recorded the proceedings of Congress. Literary material such as poetry, biographical and historical sketches, extracts from travel books, and miscellaneous essays were also included and several issues contained portraits. Cf.
