Biography/History:

A non-sectarian fraternal order Founded in 1864 by Justus H. Rathbone. It was the first fraternal order chartered by an act of Congress. The Stonewall Jackson Lodge No. 7 was founded in 1873 in Greenville, Mississippi. In 1877 the lodge closed due to the inability to pay the required tax. In 1879 the Lodge was re-established. The order follows three principles: friendship, charity, and benevolence.

Summary:

An oversize, red leather volume containing the list of members for the Stonewall Jackson Lodge No. 7, Knights of Pythias in Greenville, Mississippi spanning the years from 1873 to 1928. The members are listed by year of admission. Pre-printed columns provide the age, residence, occupation, date of admission, and remarks for each member. The volume displays the varied backgrounds of the lodge's members including clerks, engineers, farmers, hotel keepers, judges, lawyers, local officials, merchants, ministers, photographers, and shoemakers. There were many Jewish members including Jacob Alexander, mayor of Greenville; Nathan Goldstein, city councilman; and Joshua Skinner, president of Citizens Bank. The pre-printed volume has leaves with columns, rows, and headings spanning one opening. Printed along the top of each opening is: Roll of members, Stonewall Jackson Lodge No. 7, K. of P. Title is stamped in gold on cover. Label on inside front cover reads: S. C. Toof, proprietors Franklin Printing House, blank book manufactury, Memphis.
