- The Honourable Raphael Carl Rattray, OJ, QC, LLB (London), LLD (Hons) is well known for his career as a public servant, practitioner a the Bar, Parliamentarian, Cabinet Minister, Attorney-General, member of the Judicary and President of the Court of Appeal in Jamaica. However, beneath the man of law, lies the soul of a poet, and here, in his book Poems of Our Times, Carl Rattray gives voice to his philosophical musings.A delicately wrought work, spanning 50 years, the collection delivers soothing and inspirational meditations and reflections on the wonders of life, the dynamic spirit of the country and nature in all its majesty and triumph.Joining him in his creative endeavour, is Rattray's wife, Audrey, an artist in her own right, whose paintings inspired much of his writing and which serve as vibrant illustrations for his poems.Carl Rattray was born in Santa Cruz, St Elizabeth, Jamaica on September 18, 1929. He was educated at Beckford and Smith (now St Jago) High School, Spanish Town, Jamaica and at Lincoln's Inn School of Law, the Inns of Court, London. After a long and distinguished career in law and government, he retired in 1999 and dedicated his time to documenting his vast knowledge of Jamaica.
