- Summary:
- This volume is a compilation of a set of four chapters that study issues of reverse engineering, multicore processors, high performance computing, and model-based approaches for fault-tolerance. Thanks in part to the recent advances in computers, our computer systems today have become large, complex, and difficult to fully understand. At the same time, we constantly demand better quality—both in terms of performance and fault tolerance—from these systems. We have come to increasingly rely on multiple technologies to provide this quality improvement. We use hardware solutions, in the form of multicore processors to provide parallelism, leading to better performance. We use reverse-engineering techniques to better understand the behavior of our software. We use high performance frameworks for domain-specific applications. And we employ model-driven approaches to develop fault-tolerance in our systems. In this volume, we touch upon all these issues.
