Summary:
The Halden and Balstoy prisons in Norway provide prisoners with excellent accommodation services and other recreational activities that are aimed to help them transition smoothly into society. The environment at these institutions varies hugely from that of the United States or United Kingdom, for example, and this is reflected in Norway's low rate of repeated crimes. This case study asks readers to assess the ethical implications of Norway's prison model and whether it might be applicable on an international basis.
