Summary:
Mr. Maleque, the Chairman of Sakib Garments Limited, found himself in a difficult position when his company underwent a series of events that evolved into a crisis. First, in Mr. Maleque's absence, the marketing director of the firm improperly managed an order, which resulted in the cancellation of the order by the buyer. Second, the operating bank was unwilling to extend credit to Sakib Garments and declined to renew their financial contract. Third, as Mr. Maleque dug deep inside his company to extract the root of the crisis, he discovered that a few of his own key employees had engaged in corruption and bribery with the buying house and the bank. Although many details of this case are specific to the context of a developing country and the garment industry, the principles involved apply to crisis management and leadership issues faced by business everywhere.
