Summary:

The Fifth Avenue Committee, Inc. is a not-for-profit, community-based organization serving the South Brooklyn communities of Park Slope, Red Hook, Gowanus, and Sunset Park. FAC began in 1977 as a group of neighbors "working together for a vibrant, diverse community where all residents have genuine opportunities to achieve their goals, as well as the power to shape the community's future," according to the group's mission statement. FAC consistently gives people a chance to take on potentially risky, controversial projects and run with them, say FAC leaders.
