- Summary:
- This case presents an ethical and legal dilemma that frequently occurs during the layoff process. The Vice President of a University Marketing Department must layoff a worker and settles on an older, higher-paid employee. However, they must be sure not to invite legal action by firing an older worker and hiring a younger one, as well as the ethical concerns raised by firing a worker dependent on their salary.
