- Summary:
- This case focuses on WindProvider, a traditional manufacturer of wind turbines and wind farms, who has moved into providing operations and maintenance (O&M) services for their equipment. The case shows why WindProvider implemented a servitization strategy and how it influenced its organisation design. The description highlights the parts of the organisation design that impact the success of the service business and the parts that are problematic. The case is a good example of how servitized manufacturing companies tend to employ a manufacturing-focused organisation culture throughout their service business despite the strong differences between product-based and service-based operations in terms of customer communications, organisational information flow, staff skills, skill development and staff motivation.
