Summary:
Youth Villages was founded in Memphis in 1986 to provide residential treatment to emotionally and behaviorally troubled young people. The organization has expanded and its programs now include intensive in-home services, treatment foster care, adoption services, community-based services, transitional living services, family-based care for children with developmental disabilities, and specialized crisis services. The case highlights how Youth Villages has operated with business principles and financial soundness. President Obama has cited Youth Villages as an example of a results-oriented nonprofit that a $50-million Social Innovation Fund is intended to help expand.
