Text (completed in ms.) concludes: And for the true performance of all and every the covenants and agreements aforesaid, either of the said parties bindeth themselves firmly by these presents, in witness whereof the parties abovesaid to these indentures interchangeably have set their hands and seals the second day of May in the thirtieth year of the reign of our sovereign lord George the Second by the grace of God of Great Britain, France and Ireland King, Defender of the Faith: and in the year of our Lord 1757.
Broadside (vertical chain lines). The first line of text (including ten-line initial T) is a xylograph; woodcut price device ("A Penny Pr. Pair." within a circle surmounted by St. Edward's crown) in left margin.
"N.B. What money or other thing is given or contracted for with the apprentice must be inserted in words at length, and the duty paid within the time limited to the Stamp Office, else the indenture will be void, the master forfeit fifty pounds and another penalty, and the apprentice be disabled to follow the trade or be made free and so forth. Note. The office is no. 8 in Lincoln's Inn New Square, London: and the office hours are from nine to twelve in the morning, and from two to five in the afternoon, holydays excepted."
Local Notes:
Smith copy: the names of Nicholas Juxon and his father Thomas Juxon, Nicholas’s place of residence, the profession to which and person to whom he is to be apprenticed, the start date and term of his apprenticeship, the day, month, regnal year and name of George II, Gregorian year, and one pronoun are supplied in ms. in the blanks provided. The word “Cloths” is added in ms. at the end of line 23. “M[blank]” (for Master/Mistress) and “h[blank]” (singular third-person pronoun) are completed in ms. wherever they occur.
