Summary:
The Virginia McClure Ceramic Biennial is dedicated to the celebration of excellence and innovation in contemporary ceramic art. Whereas the first two biennials - 'Cameleon' (2014) and 'Episode' (2016) - emphasized the impulse towards innovation in contemporary ceramic practice, this year's theme highlights excellence of craftsmanship as a means to achieve innovation. The author presents the work of five artists - Catherine De Abreu, Veronika Horlik, Julie Lavoie, Guy Simoneau, and Vera Vicente - highlighting each one's mastery of a particular technique. The title refers to the temperature at which clay becomes ceramic, thereby transforming it into art. Accompanied by a portfolio on each artist. Luc Delavigne is outgoing president of the Conseil des métiers d'arts du Québec and current assistant director at the Centre de céramique Bonsecours in Montreal. 00Exhibition: Galerie McClure, Montréal, Canada (01.-24.11.2018).
