- Summary:
- Back cover: Kyle Dieleman addresses how Reformed Protestants in the Low Countries concieved of the Sabbath theologically and how the Sabbath was to be observed. The Sabbath was a theologically complicated issue for Dutch Reformed theologians and an important aspect ofearly modern Dutch Reformed piety. Sunday observance was significant because it helped church authorities maintain order in their churches and Dutch society. Ensuring Reformed Christians properly adhered to the Sabbath also helped establish a Reformed identity and distinguish their confession group in a religiously plural situation.
