Summary:
Collection of remedies, including ointments, tinctures, plasters, powders, and salves, from family, acquaintances, and printed sources, added to the end of a copy of the first edition of The practice of physick in seventeen several books, 1655. The collection was begun by Tobias Wolrich of Leeds and added to by many hands through at least 1782 (p. 750). Among the later additions are household preparations for cleaning, killing pests, and veterinary medicine. Printed sources cited include London's Evening post and the Universal magazine. Three indexes, Index to receipts in physick and surgery (p. 746-747), Index of miscellaneous recipes (p. 748), and Index -- Farriery (p. 749), cover the receipts in the manuscript section of the volume. A partial table of contents (p. 751) lists the receipts in the first half of the manuscript (p. 665-681).
