No date is noted for the first edition, but the second incorporates such developments as the protease-antiprotease hypothesis of emphysema, tobacco-associated bronchiolitis and its clinicopathologic correlates, other forms of bronchiolitis, the computed tomographic diagnosis of emphysema, the pathogenesis and role of mediators in asthma, and the move of much pulmonary research into molecular biology. Topics include historical considerations, tests of pulmonary function, etiology, animal models, epidemiology, and lung reduction surgery. Thurlbeck died after bringing Wright on board but before the volume was completed. The CD-ROM, apparently containing the text, runs either in Windows or on Macintosh.
