- Summary:
- Always fascinated by freaks, outlaws, and outsiders, Belgian illustrator and poster designer Dave Decat has been relentlessly exploring the colorful universe of the gangsters whom he magnifies: be it the criminal gangs of the Paris Belle Epoque, the Apaches, who wanted to display and parade, tattooed thugs, or others. From this coded and stylized world the artist draws his ideas and the material for the imaginary portraits he creates, inspired by Anatole Steinlen or the imagery found in the newspapers of the time such as Le Petit Newspaper. To enrich his world, the artist also draws on specific literary and cinematographic sources. Dave Decat also dedicates his works to those who were called hoodlums in the 1980s and to the fans of heavy metal rock music.
