- Discusses legislative origin of the SBA surety bond guarantee (SBG) program, under which SBA provides partial reimbursement to surety companies for losses resulting from contract default by small construction firms covered by surety bonds that have been guaranteed under the SBG program. Summarizes major issues that have influenced program development, examines current program eligibility standards and requirements, and provides several performance statistics, including number and amount of bond guarantees issued annually. Reviews proposals to merge the prior approval program and the preferred surety bond guarantee program while retaining the flexible operating requirements of the preferred program.
