- Provides information on Presidential utilization of P.L. 107-40, the Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF), which authorizes the President, in accordance with requirements of the War Powers Resolution, to use military force against those nations, organizations, or persons that he determines planned, authorized, committed or aided the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Examines 2001 AUMF enactment, interpretation, and use; current executive branch policy; and issues concerning the continued use of the 2001 AUMF. Reviews arguments to maintain, repeal, or amend/replace the 2001 AUMF; and summarizes current legislative proposals.
