Summary:
Examines aviation consumer protections since 1978 deregulation of the airline industry, which eliminated Federal control over many airline business practices, including pricing and domestic route selection. Explains roles of Congress and DOT in protecting airline consumers, and highlights selected passenger air service improvement provisions in FAA 2012 reauthorization. Discusses consumer complaints to DOT, reviews DOT regulatory actions, and addresses major ongoing passenger rights issues and related laws and regulations.
